Why are people so impressed with CGI?
Okay, it can look cool.
But it eliminates layers of realism which deflate the "magic" of movies.
I might as well just be sitting at home playing X-Box or Nintendo(neither of which I will ever spend money on).
I went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes a while back. The first scene shows the monkey figuring out a logistical puzzle in record time. Then, one of the scientists watching, asks another, "Hey! Are you seeing this!? This ape completed the test in record time! Can you believe it!?".
Umm.
YES, I CAN BELIEVE IT. Why? Because it's a FUCKING COMPUTER GENERATED MONKEY. A COMPUTER GENERATED MONKEY CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK THE SCRIPT SAYS. I'M NOT IMPRESSED. Find the monkey who can pull off the stunt or don't shoot the damn scene. It's NOT AMAZING, because it's NOT REAL. OKAY? OKAY.
